The brief

Everything the organiser published

Acm Thapar presents Cryptic Hunt, an exhilarating competition that plunges participants into the depths of cryptographic puzzles and challenges. Teams navigate through a maze of enigmatic clues, decoding intricate ciphers, and unraveling complex riddles to progress towards victory. Racing against the clock with every cryptographic conundrum solved there awaits another adrenaline-fueled journey through the cryptic realms of cybersecurity which ultimately lead to triumph.
Teams must collaborate closely, combining their unique skill sets and perspectives to tackle each challenge efficiently. Communication is key as they share insights, hypotheses, and breakthroughs in real-time.

Guidelines:

  • There will be a set of challenges from different categories like cryptography, web security, forensics, steganography, reverse engineering, binary exploits, etc.
  • The challenges can either be a collection of downloadable files to find the answer or running it as a web service in which the participants try to connect and exploit to retrieve the answer.
  • Each category contains various questions with different point values and difficulty levels.
  • The participants will be ranked based on their scores, and the time taken will be used as a tiebreaker.
  • The organizers will provide hints in the discord server.

Rules:

  • Players can compete individually or in teams of up to 3 members.
  • Any kind of Denial-of-Service Attack (DoS/DDoS) against the servers or the competition’s infrastructure is strictly forbidden.
  • Teams should work independently; sharing answers or collaborating with another team constitutes cheating.
  • Doubts/queries regarding the questions (if any) should be asked to the organizers directly.
  • Any kind of violation of these rules will lead to immediate disqualification of the team.

Judging Criteria:

  • Each category contains a variety of questions of different point values and difficulties.
  • Participants will be ranked based on their scores, and the time taken to solve the challenge will be considered in case of a tie.
  • The decision of the organizers will be final.

Eligibilty:

  • Students pursuing an Undergraduate/Master’s Degree in any discipline.
